A Typical Day at One of Our Camps

This page is designed to give you an idea of what our campers do at camp.  Please read on for individual program information.

TENNISTAR

At TenniStar, each session includes demonstrations of all stroke fundamentals, technique analysis and correction, rules of the game and singles and doubles strategy.  Each day a different stroke is emphasized.  More advanced players begin game play early on in the session.

Multi-participant stroke and positioning drills keep students active.  Even our youngest campers rapidly progress through tennis basics.

SOCCERSTAR

Our directors have designed this program to work for players of all ability levels.  Daily, a different theme or specific skill area will be emphasized (dribbling, passing, goal scoring, defending, ball control).  Speed and agility work will enhance coordination and balance.

Following a warm-up and introduction to the focus of that day, campers will work on individual skills, receive tactical instruction, and learn correct techniques.  Players then put those skills into practice through activities, designed games, and small-sided open-play scrimmages.  Our low player-to-coach ratio results in a maximum number of touches on the ball for each player.

SPORTSTAR

In 2009, former Visi students developed a program designed for incoming Visi freshmen.  During the first week of camp, we will focus on introducing the new class to the campus, the community, and each other.  Campers will participate in various sports (tennis, soccer, softball, and basketball) along with team-building and bonding exercises.  Current Visi students and alumnae will staff the camp.  It is low-key and tons of fun.

FIELDHOCKEYSTAR

Daily, a different theme or specific skill area will be emphasized (stick skills, push passing, drives, defense). Campers will participate in exercises to enhance agility, balance and strength.  Players will be assessed and grouped according to age and proficiency.  Teams are encouraged to apply together, and friends can request that they be paired with one another.  Campers will work on individual skills, receive tactical instruction, and learn correct techniques; players then put those skills into practice through activities, designed games and small-sided open-play scrimmages.

HOOPSTAR

Join the HoopStar coaches for two great weeks of basketball camp.  Each session will focus on the six fundamentals of basketball: ball handling, passing, shooting, defense, rebounding, and pivoting, in an exciting and competitive environment.  In addition to individual skills, campers will learn team concepts necessary to play at the highest level.

Campers will be divided by age and skill level, and each day will include team games and contests to maximize the fun!  Experienced HoopStar instructors will ensure that each camper receives the time and attention needed to guarantee a great experience learning the game they love.  Boys and girls of all skill levels are welcome.

All of our sports camps:

• Are run by experienced sports professionals, including a director, an assistant director, and a talented staff of trained college and high school student athletes
• Group campers by age and ability level
Take frequent breaks, especially in the summer heat
• Have special days like pizza day, Good Humor day or Clayboys day - for which you will be notified ahead of time
• Lead to lasting friendships and greater enjoyment of the sport(s) involved

What Does Your Child Need For Camp?
 Tennis campers need a racquet.
Soccer campers need a soccer ball, shinguards, and running shoes. Cleats are recommended for outdoor use, but they may not be worn inside the gym (if you bring cleats, we recommend also bringing sneakers or athletic sandals to wear indoors), and St. Andrew's campers may not wear cleats on the turf.
Basketball campers need a basketball.
Lacrosse campers need a lacrosse stick, goggles, and a mouthguard.
 All-day campers need a lunch.

We Strongly Recommend:
Water bottles.
Sunscreen/hats/light colored clothing for campers who will be outside.
High-top basketball shoes for added ankle support for basketball campers.
Bringing spare change for vending machines and/or a snack for the morning snack break.
If your child has a serious medical condition that you speak with our site director in person on the first day of camp (in addition to indicating the issue in the health history form).
